Sometimes in life there are things that happen that are just meant to be. There are those defining moments when one looks back and knows that if an event had not occurred, then life as we know it would be different.
I personally had one of those moments back in April 2014. I was standing in a small room in the Baltimore Washington International Airport waiting for the TSA to examine our dog kennel. I hear a stranger in the background and I could not help but hear the word Ironman. My ears perked up immediately and I felt compelled to eavesdrop. Don't judge, you would do it too if it was something you shared an interest in. :) I had to look over and there was Jason. I came over and introduced myself and suddenly it was as if I had known him my whole life. We talked from that moment till we arrived in Turkey with the exception of a few naps.
Since then, we have trained together almost everyday. Jason and I are both super competitive, which leads to intense training. Practically every training session regardless of what we might be training on, pushing each other hard to finish.
Tracking data is important to me so I can look back over time and see progress. After every session, we compare notes, times, and speed. It never fails that we are very close on times, weights, etc.
I feel very fortunate to have been blessed with a couple of amazing training parters in my life. My lovely bride is also my training partner. Although she and I train for different things and different paces, weights, etc., she keeps me accountable everyday in completing workouts, the food I ingest, and basically just pushes me to be better at all I do in life.
As we move in 2015, I look at myself and think about what I can do to make those around me better. What good have I done if I only improve myself? My goal is to motivate those around me to become the best version of themselves possible. Take a moment today and do one thing to help someone around you become better. You never know, you could change someones life.
My goal is to blog more consistently this year. We begin our Ironman training very soon and I would love to consistently blog the journey.
Happy New Year to everyone. Let us all do our best to make this year the best year yet!
